The introduction of magical realism to Telugu Cinema
Magical Realism as a genre was popularised by the Latin American author Gabriel Garcia Marquez. In the book One Hundred Years of Solitude, we experience a family through various generations of Colombian History, where magic is as normal as the everyday sunlight. As Colombia gets colonised and enters the modern era, the magic slowly fades away. Here the magic becomes a metaphor for the cultural identity of the country that was lost over time.
From then on, this genre was explored around the world by different authors, filmmakers, and creators. When coming to the Telugu film industry, we always had mythological and fantastical films, but never in the true vein of Magical Realism.
